Shoshone Falls (/ʃoʊˈʃoʊn/) is a waterfall on the Snake River in southern Idaho, United States, approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) northeast of the city of Twin Falls. Sometimes called the "Niagara of the West," Shoshone Falls is 212 feet (65 m) high—45 feet (14 m) higher than Niagara Falls—and flows over a rim nearly 1,000 feet (300 m) wide.
Formed by catastrophic outburst flooding during the Pleistocene ice age about 14,000 years ago, Shoshone Falls marks the historical upper limit of fish migration (including salmon) in the Snake River, and was an important fishing and trading place for Native Americans. The falls were documented by Europeans as early as the 1840s; despite the isolated location, it became a tourist attraction starting in the 1860s. At the beginning of the 20th century, part of the Snake River was diverted for irrigation of the Magic Valley. Now, the flows over the falls can be viewed seasonally based on snowfall, irrigation needs and hydroelectric demands. Irrigation and hydroelectric power stations built on the falls were major contributors to the early economic development of southern Idaho.
The City of Twin Falls owns and operates a park overlooking the waterfall. Shoshone Falls is best viewed in the spring, as diversion of the Snake River often can significantly diminishes water levels in the late summer and fall. The flow over the falls ranges from over 20,000 cubic feet per second (570 m3/s) during late spring of wet years, to a minimum "scenic flow" (dam release) of 300 cubic feet per second (8.5 m3/s) in dry years.

Ces hommes sont chargés de maintenir la route en état pour limiter les ruptures du trafic routier, vital pour le Ladakh car le camion est sa seule source d'approvisionnement.
Ces travailleurs sont des obscurs, des sans grades, auxquels nul ne prête attention et qui se fondent dans un décor minéral grandiose et hostile.
Des hommes seuls ou en petits groupes, errant à pied pour rejoindre un chantier, une énorme clé anglaise, une simple pelle ou une pioche sur l’épaule ; on en croise régulièrement sur la route.
Toujours en guenilles, ils ne disposent que de cagoules de laine grossière ou d'une simple capuche pour se protéger des affres du soleil et des morsures du froid, qui cohabitent souvent à ces altitudes… Et où l’oxygène manque cruellement. Ce qui leur donne souvent un air hagard.
Ces deux jeunes ouvriers ont été photographiés à près de 4000 mètres d'altitude sur un tronçon asphalté en bon état. Ce qui était rare à l’époque, laissant supposer la proximité d'un camp militaire. Je ne sais pas d'où ils venaient, ni vers quel chantier où ils allaient ? Le dernier chantier d'importance était à plus de deux heures de route en véhicule.
The convicts of the Himalayas
Himachal-Pradesh (India) - Yes, they look like convicts, but they are voluntary workers.
These men are responsible for maintaining the road in order to limit the disruption of road traffic, vital for Ladakh, because the truck is its only source of supply.
These workers are obscure people, without ranks, to whom no one pays attention and who blend into a grandiose mineral setting.
Men alone or in small groups, wandering on foot to reach a construction site, an enormous wrench, a simple shovel or a pickaxe on the shoulder; we meet them regularly on the road.
Always in rags, they only have hoods of coarse wool to protect themselves from the sun burns and the cold that prevail at this altitude ... and where oxygen is sorely lacking. Which often gives them a haggard look.
These two young workers were photographed at an altitude of almost 4000 meters on an asphalt stretch in good condition. Which was rare at the time, suggesting the proximity of a military camp. I don't know where they came from, and where they were going?

The Azure Window, also known as the Dwejra Window, was a 28-metre-tall (92 ft) limestone natural arch on the island of Gozo in Malta. It was located in Dwejra Bay, within the limits of San Lawrenz, close to the Inland Sea and the Fungus Rock, and was one of Malta's major tourist attractions. The arch, together with other natural features in the area, has appeared in a number of international films and media productions.
The formation was created by the collapse of a sea cave, probably during the 19th century. It consisted of a pillar of rock rising from the sea and joined to the cliff by a horizontal slab. Following decades of natural erosion that caused parts of the arch to fall into the sea, the slab and pillar collapsed completely in stormy weather on 8 March 2017.

Shoshone Falls (/ʃoʊˈʃoʊn/) is a waterfall on the Snake River in southern Idaho, United States, approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) northeast of the city of Twin Falls. Sometimes called the "Niagara of the West," Shoshone Falls is 212 feet (65 m) high—45 feet (14 m) higher than Niagara Falls—and flows over a rim nearly 1,000 feet (300 m) wide.
Formed by catastrophic outburst flooding during the Pleistocene ice age about 14,000 years ago, Shoshone Falls marks the historical upper limit of fish migration (including salmon) in the Snake River, and was an important fishing and trading place for Native Americans. The falls were documented by Europeans as early as the 1840s; despite the isolated location, it became a tourist attraction starting in the 1860s. At the beginning of the 20th century, part of the Snake River was diverted for irrigation of the Magic Valley. Now, the flows over the falls can be viewed seasonally based on snowfall, irrigation needs and hydroelectric demands. Irrigation and hydroelectric power stations built on the falls were major contributors to the early economic development of southern Idaho.
The City of Twin Falls owns and operates a park overlooking the waterfall. Shoshone Falls is best viewed in the spring, as diversion of the Snake River often can significantly diminishes water levels in the late summer and fall. The flow over the falls ranges from over 20,000 cubic feet per second (570 m3/s) during late spring of wet years, to a minimum "scenic flow" (dam release) of 300 cubic feet per second (8.5 m3/s) in dry years.

It is amazing how life is like a video game. After you complete a major task in life you learn there is a larger and greater task waiting for you to conquer. Life has a way to push you beyond your limits to places you never thought you'd achieved. When trials hit aways remember it is preparing you to go beyond you limits.

This is the first official photo of King Autumnus "Pepo" Cucurbita. It has always been the tradition that the first official image of the new king or queen of autumn is a painting but "Pepo" I. wants to be a modern king so he asked for a photograph, and who am I to refuse a king's request? For the photo, Pepo I. proudly wore his super comfortable, velvety-soft coronation mantle that was exclusively designed for him by Kale Lagerfeld.
Since Pepo is such a modern ornamental gourd, pardon, king, he also spends much of his free time searching the internet. Most recently, he developed a keen interest in body enhancements. As a first step, he requested a second eye. Born a cyclops (he's always been fine with it and it has never impaired him whatsoever), he for once wanted to have the "stereo view" experience "just like everybody else." So I made him a second eye from modeling clay, not expecting much of a "stereo view" experience for Pepo but he's delighted about it and keeps assuring me that he "sees like I have never seen before. By the way, Silke, when was the last time you dusted that corner, if I may ask?"
Originally, I wanted to use a tiny chestnut that I had picked up in front of my house (it's a tradition to pick one up and keep it as a good luck charm) but then I saw these small ornamental gourds at the supermarket the other day and took a closer look. One of the colourful little gourds had a tiny head with one "eye" and a huge pug nose and I kind of fell in love with it. Since there also was the first kale at the Whole Foods Market, an idea formed and I decided to stick to it and try to make it work: the birth and coronation of King Pepo I.
So the autumn traditions here are quite obvious: collecting leaves, and cooking with pumpkin and kale (the latter I didn't like too much as a child because back then it was the fashion to almost cook it to oblivion). Even the modeling clay eye represents a typical at-home autumn activity: crafting.
In-camera focus stacking yielded the best results, and combining the 15 ORF files in Helicon Focus yielded a better result than the in-camera stacked final JPG which had some artifacts. Illumination: natural light from above, yellowish light from the right, and indirect, reflected light from the left.
Size info: The width of the frame is a little less than 7 cm/2, 75 inches. I went as close as possible and measured the scene before taking the photo to make sure it didn't exceed our size limit. And you've seen the tiny crown before, it is 2 cm/0,78 inches "tall".

Pues una amapola entre el pasto seco. Destacaba a más no poder por el contraste tan grande con el entorno y al baile con las espigas secas al ritmo de la brisa.
Me robó un rato probando distintas distancias, aperturas y velocidades. Todo ello limitado por una valla metálica entre la lente y la escena que a veces aunque difuminada un buen ojo la podrá percibir.

Fanlo est une municipalité et une ville espagnole appartenant à la province de Huesca et à la région de Sobrarbe , dans la communauté autonome d' Aragon . Il est situé dans la vallée de Vió et dans sa commune se trouve le massif du Mont Perdu (3355 m). Avec une densité de 0,9 hab/km², c'est l'une des communes les plus inhabitées de la région.
Le toponyme de Fanlo dérive du latin FANUM « temple », avec le diminutif - ULUM , FANŬLUM , « petit temple ».
Géographie
Le terrain est composé d' ardoises et de schistes paléozoïques et de sols de terre brune humides. Le climat alpin prédomine . La végétation est principalement constituée de forêts de pins, de chênes, de hêtres et de sapins.
C'est la capitale de la vallée de Vió . La commune borde Bielsa et Puértolas à l'est, Boltaña au sud, Fiscal , Broto et Torla-Ordesa à l'ouest et la France au nord. Dans ses limites naissent les rivières Arazas , Aso et Vellos , toutes affluentes du Cinca . Une partie de son territoire communal est occupée par le parc national d'Ordesa
Autour
Parmi son patrimoine naturel abondant, se distingue la forêt Pardina del Señor , située sur la route qui relie Fanlo à Sarvisé . Elle est considérée comme la forêt la plus spectaculaire de toute l’Europe en automne. Il présente un mélange d'épicéa, de hêtre, d'érable, de tremble, de noisetier, de sorbier des bois, de frêne, de cerisier, de pin sylvestre, de bouleau, de buis ou de chêne à galle dans une combinaison parfaite qui fait ressembler les montagnes à un tableau pointilliste. Ce n'est qu'au Canada , aux États-Unis ou au Japon que vous pouvez visiter des forêts similaires.

Un des temps forts de ce séjour en République Tchèque, au fin fond de la campagne tchèque pour photographier les fameuses 750.7 en tête de rames tractées sur la ligne à voie unique Brno - Jhilava. Sur ce trajet, la ligne serpente entre les collines avec des paysages magnifiques bien trop peu connus.
Très peu de modernité sur cette section, aussi bien des infrastructures que le matériel roulant avec également de vieux autorails parfois accompagnés d'une voiture voyageur.
Incontournables machines diesel de lignes, les 750.7 sont très proches des 754 et sont l'équivalent des BB 67400 française. À la différence près que les 754 et 750.7 sont encore très présentes en tête des trains de voyageurs sur de très belles lignes.
Néanmoins cet été, des travaux avaient lieu entre Brno et Náměšť nad Oslavou, limitant les trains à Náměšť et réduisant ainsi la fréquence des rames tractées. Les 750.7 devant en effet effectuer une impasse en gare de Náměšť, seulement deux rames avec deux 750.7 circulaient ce jour là. Comme beaucoup de trains en Tchèquie, les 750.7 et leurs rames étaient impeccablement propres, avec une composition homogène bleue ČD qui met bien en valeur la rame.

Sevilla es un municipio y una ciudad de España, capital de la provincia homónima y de la comunidad autónoma de Andalucía. Cuenta con 689 434 habitantes en 2017,6 por lo que es la ciudad más poblada de Andalucía, la cuarta de España después de Madrid, Barcelona y Valencia y la 32.ª de la Unión Europea. El municipio tiene una extensión de 140,8 km². El área metropolitana de Sevilla está compuesta por 46 municipios, incluye a una población de 1 535 379 habitantes (INE, 2016), y ocupa una superficie de 4905,04 km².
Su casco antiguo es el más extenso de España y el sexto más grande de toda Europa tras los de Roma, Nápoles, Venecia, Florencia y Génova, con 3,94 kilómetros cuadrados, y su casco histórico uno de los más grandes de España (nótese la diferencia entre casco antiguo, que solo incluye la zona histórica anterior a la Revolución Industrial, y casco histórico, que abarca estadios posteriores). Su patrimonio histórico y monumental y sus diversos espacios escénicos y culturales la constituyen en ciudad receptora de turismo nacional e internacional, en efecto se trata de la tercera capital más visitada de España, tras Barcelona y Madrid.11 Entre sus monumentos más representativos se encuentran la catedral (que incluye la Giralda), el Alcázar, el Archivo de Indias y la Torre del Oro, de los que los tres primeros han sido declarados Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco de forma conjunta en 1987.
El puerto de Sevilla, situado a unos 70 km del océano Atlántico, es el único puerto marítimo de España en una ciudad de interior, pues el río Guadalquivir es navegable desde su desembocadura en Sanlúcar de Barrameda hasta la capital hispalense, aunque el tamaño de los barcos que acceden a la ciudad está limitado por una esclusa con un calado máximo de 8,5 m y el puente de circunvalación del Centenario que limita el calado aéreo a 42 m.
Sevilla dispone de una red desarrollada de transporte por carretera y ferrocarril, así como de un aeropuerto internacional. Es destacable la presencia histórica de la industria aeronáutica en la ciudad, así como de la industria militar.
Con la celebración de la Exposición Iberoamericana de 1929, la ciudad experimentó un gran desarrollo urbanístico marcado por la creación de parques y la construcción de edificios proyectados para dicho acontecimiento, como el parque de María Luisa o la plaza de España. La Exposición Universal de 1992 dejó como legado en la ciudad una importante mejora de la infraestructura, principalmente en las comunicaciones terrestres y aeronáuticas, entre las que destaca el acceso ferroviario del AVE a la estación de Santa Justa. Asimismo, el área de la Expo de 1992 se adaptó como sede del Parque Tecnológico Cartuja 93, sedes de la Universidad de Sevilla y el parque temático y de ocio Isla Mágica.
En 2014 se llevaron a cabo importantes proyectos en la ciudad, como la Torre Cajasol, el proyecto del Puerto Delicias o el Acuario Nuevo Mundo, algunos de ellos objeto de polémica debido a su posible impacto visual.
La Universidad de Sevilla, fundada en 1505, tiene más de 65 000 estudiantes. Asimismo, la Universidad Pablo de Olavide, cuenta más de 10 000 estudiantes. Son miles los estudiantes extranjeros que se matriculan en los programas Erasmus y cursos de español en la Universidad de Sevilla, que en 2006 fue una de las diez más visitadas de Europa junto con otras ocho universidades españolas.
Sevilla ha despertado desde antiguo, y especialmente durante la época del Romanticismo, la evocación de los artistas europeos, que ven en ella un lugar pintoresco y maravilloso. Tras los últimos estudios, se ha llegado a identificar un total de 150 óperas ambientadas en esta ciudad, como La fuerza del destino, Carmen, El barbero de Sevilla, Don Giovanni o Las bodas de Fígaro.
Seville (/səˈvɪl/; Spanish: Sevilla [seˈβiʎa]) is a Spanish city, the capital of the autonomous community of Andalusia and the province of Seville. It is situated on the lower reaches of the Guadalquivir River, in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula. Seville has a municipal population of about 690,000 as of 2016, and a metropolitan population of about 1.5 million, making it the largest city in Andalusia, the fourth-largest city in Spain and the 30th most populous municipality in the European Union. Its Old Town, with an area of 4 square kilometres (2 sq mi), contains three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Alcázar palace complex, the Cathedral and the General Archive of the Indies. The Seville harbour, located about 80 kilometres (50 miles) from the Atlantic Ocean, is the only river port in Spain. Seville experiences high temperatures in the Summer, with daily maximums routinely above 35 °C (95 °F) in July and August.
Seville was founded as the Roman city of Hispalis. It became known as Ishbiliyya after the Muslim conquest in 712. During the Muslim rule in Spain, Seville came under the jurisdiction of the Caliphate of Córdoba before becoming the independent Taifa of Seville; later it was ruled by the Muslim Almoravids and the Almohads until finally being incorporated into the Christian Kingdom of Castile under Ferdinand III in 1248. After the discovery of the Americas, Seville became one of the economic centres of the Spanish Empire as its port monopolised the trans-oceanic trade and the Casa de Contratación (House of Trade) wielded its power, opening a Golden Age of arts and literature. In 1519, Ferdinand Magellan departed from Seville for the first circumnavigation of the Earth. Coinciding with the Baroque period of European history, the 17th century in Seville represented the most brilliant flowering of the city's culture; then began a gradual economic and demographic decline as silting in the Guadalquivir forced the trade monopoly to relocate to the nearby port of Cádiz.
The 20th century in Seville saw the tribulations of the Spanish Civil War, decisive cultural milestones such as the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929 and Expo '92, and the city's election as the capital of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia.

CNW 1509 works the Niagara 8 AM yard job on March 2, 1981. The crew has just returned from the upper yard on the Michigan side of the river with some empty box cars to spot in the warehouse. The ride in one of these units at any kind of speed was bone-jarring. Fortunately the speed limit on the Niagara branch was only 10 mph. There are still unused tracks in Niagara but the paper mill was shut down and most of it was leveled several years ago.
